Tamang Heritage Trek

Tamang Heritage Trek is a relatively new trek route in Langtang region which takes us into an unforgettable adventure in the area that lies in between Ganesh Mountain and Langtang Mountain Range. Tamang Heritage Trekking route was developed under Rural Poverty Alleviation (RPAP) program with a mission to eliminate poverty that prevails in the rural area. A trail for Tamang Heritage trek stretches along the off-the-beaten area and takes us to the ethnic villages of Tamang people. Locals in these parts of Langtang had their origin in Tibet. Tibetans came to Nepal to escape war and began to live here. Since Nepal Government would not recognize them, they discarded their original ethnicity and adopted the name of Tamang to get citizenship from Nepal. People in this area are able to keep their ancient traditions and culture alive.

Tamang Heritage trail takes us to the west of Langtang Valley. After guided sightseeing tour of UNESCO sites in Kathmandu, we will follow PasangLhamu Highway and reachSyabrubesi which is the gateway to Langtang region. We will begin our trek from Syabrubesi and walk to Gatlangwhich is the first major Tamang village under the RPAP program. Gatlangvillage is located at the top of the hill. Parvatikunda Lake and the local Buddhist monastery are places of interest in Gatlang. We will visit natural hot spring at Tatopani before arriving atThumanwhich is famous for its unique shamanic ritual.

Tamang Trail

"I completed a short walk along the Tamang Trail organised through Manikang NT&A. Things leading up to to my arrival in Nepal chopped and changed as I tried to work out was reasonable in a relatively short trip. Pasang was very patient as worked through possibilities. Lakpa, the porter guide was an absolute delight to spend time with and extrodinarily attentive at the end of the days walk ensuring the service in the lodge was good quality. Considering there was no one else on the trail, so I got more or less all the attention at the lodge, spoke volumes of Lakpa's sense of pride in his work not matter what. Further, that Pasang has a guide like Lakpa on his books suggests he knows his stuff. Also, this was all organised at a reasonable price, including the private jeep ride to the trail head and back. My walk was cut short by few days as the descents were hard on over used knees. On the upside, I got to the major areas of interest and had the added bonus of a snow storm followed by a beautiful day's walk up to Taruche in fresh snow under blue skies with wondrous views. My next trek will need to be well thought out in terms of descents and trail conditions....some are regular and smoother and so less twisting on the knees down hill...but I will not hesitate in contacting Manikang to help organise it. This was my 7 trek in Nepal, on my 11th visit over 33 years."
