Mustang, the last forbidden Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal has a topography that is unlike anywhere else in Nepal. Hidden behind Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains in a rain shadow, Mustang receives very little rainfall and thus looks like a mountain desert. There is a vast expanse of rock with eroded rocks and barren landscape. Once a restricted area, Mustang is still known for its remoteness and rich ancient tradition and mythology. Mustang was officially opened for foreigners by Nepal Government only since 1992. The fortified town of Lo Manthang is the ultimate destination for Upper Mustang Trek. It is the capital of Upper Mustang. Besides having a palace of King of Mustang, there are ancient monasteries, temples, and gompa where one can get a deep insight into rare medieval Buddhist arts and exotic culture. The trekking route to Lo Manthangallows striking views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri Mountains.
